Prof. Tim Garrett in the Department of Meteorology is developing a small NASA supported observatory for the measurement of clouds and snow at Harold's Cabin, below the top of Collin's Lift at Alta Ski Area. The project goal is to image snowflakes at high resolution using a high quality camera. A position is available to continue Year 2 development and operation of this project. Applicants must have some combination of skills in the following 1. Mechanical Design 2. Soldering 3. Programming: LabVIEW 4. Electronics 5. Computer software/hardware 6. Video cameras, optics Basic skiing skills are useful. Pay and hours are negotiable. Highly valued applications will include demonstrated work experience in the integration, operation, and data acquisition from measurement probes. Job Description: The technician’s role in this position will be to participate in a development project involving research, fabrication and assembly related to the development of emission sensors. Under the direction of a Staff Engineer, and with a level of independence commensurate with their education and demonstrated capabilities, the technician will assist with materials processing and sensor fabrication. The technician will operate laser machine, hot press, screen printers, furnaces, and other specialized processing equipment. Ceramic processing requires attention to detail and good manual dexterity and therefore these skills will be required. The technician will document all work and observations in a laboratory notebook or by other means as appropriate. Education - High School diploma or the equivalent is the minimum education requirement. Experience – 1-3 years hands-on experience in a manufacturing, assembly or production environment is preferred. Training will be given. The ability to accurately record data, execute tests and follow precise instructions is a must. Baltimore WT, LLC is looking for an entry-level Chemical Engineer (recent grad or upcoming May 2008 grad) for our industrial operation located in the Curtis Bay area of Baltimore, Md. This is an entry-level position (0-5 years experience) that will have responsibility for the design, project management, piloting and operations management of chemical processes. This position reports to the facility operations manager. This person will also develop bid packages resulting from these designs. You will perform field observation of plant operations and plant construction to gain more knowledge in the plant setting. Based on your education and observation you will work to improve the efficiency of the facility. You will run lab and pilot plant experiments and tests to aid in the development of improved manufacturing procedures and processes. The entry level position will rely on instructions and pre-established guidelines to perform the functions of the job. All work will be under immediate supervision until a base knowledge is obtained and then more exercise of independent judgment will occur. Job may require off hour work during the start-up of new processes and travel may occur once a base knowledge is obtained that can be shared with other facilities.
