Graduate Admissions Requirements
The Department of Chemical Engineering accepts graduate students for the Fall, Spring, and Summer semesters. Research Assistantships are available. Students do not need to have a Master's degree to apply for a Ph.D. Students who do not have a degree in Chemical Engineering should consult the Graduate Student Handbook for additional admissions information.
The Department of Chemical Engineering offers these graduate degrees:
Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D)
Master of Science (M.S.)
Master of Engineering (M.E.)

Deadlines for International Applicants
All application material must be received by the department deadlines. Students are encouraged to apply early, as it can take up to two months for the University of Utah Admissions Office to receive and process international transcripts. All materials must be received by the University of Utah by the deadlines listed below.
- Fall Semester - February 1st
- Spring Semester - October 1st
- Summer Semester - February 1st
Submission Requirements
All applicants must submit the following in order to be considered for admission.
1. College of Engineering On-line Application

- Personal Information
- Enrollment Information
- Educational History
- Test Score Information (See information in GRE scores below)
- Personal Goals
- Resume (optional, but highly recommended)
- Prior Research, Publications, and Presentations, Teaching Experience (optional, but highly recommended)
- Scholarships and Awards (optional, but highly recommended)
- Non-citizen information
The on-line application also includes
- Reference forms. Three letters of recommendation are required of all applicants. We request that you have your references complete the letters on-line; however, if this is not possible, we will accept a hard copy of your Letter of Recommendation sent to the Chemical Engineering Department.
- You must enter the names of your references in the on-line application form even if your references are mailing their letters.
- If you need to mail them, please have your references print the letters on the appropriate letterhead. There is no specific form if the letters are mailed to the department.

There is no fee with the College of Engineering On-line Application.
2. University of Utah Admissions Office Application
University of Utah Admissions (http://www.sa.utah.edu/admiss/) links to the Graduate Application form (online and PDF). All questions on this application or on receiving transcripts must be directed to the University of Utah Admissions Office. It can take up to two months for the University of Utah Admissions Office to process this information and forward it to the department. The Chemical Engineering Department will notify all students when the University of Utah Admissions Office Application had been received by the department.

This application includes:

- Non-citizen information
- Permanent Residents and Immigrants must submit a copy of their resident alien card.
- Payment of nonrefundable application fee. This fee is required. We are not able to waive this fee.
- One official copy of academic transcript(s) from each college you have taken courses from (except the University of Utah)

DO NOT mail transcripts to the Chemical Engineering Department. Transcripts are mailed directly to the Admissions Office.
International Students applications also include:
TOEFL scores. Official TOEFL scores must be sent directly to the Admissions Office by Education Testing Services (ETS). They may not be more that 2 years old. The University of Utah requires a TOEFL score above 500 (173 computer based).
3. GRE scores
Scores must be sent directly to the department by Education Testing Services (ETS).
- Our school code is 4853; our department code is 1001.
- GRE scores are required for all applicants who do not have a GPA of 3.2 or higher from a U.S. accredited university. If you have above a GPA of 3.2from a U.S. accredited university, please enter today's date and '000' in the GRE section of the application.
We email all applicants when we receive application materials.
