Students applying for Chemical Engineering Departmental Scholarships must submit applications by March 15th. Special awards are handled through customized processes unique to the donor's specifications. New Student Scholarships are administered on a rolling basis throughout the year. The departmental application is used for all Departmental and New Student Scholarships.

Department Scholarships

Dr. W. James and Wanda Frandsen Undergraduate Scholarship (2)
$1,000

Awarded through a generous endowment established Dr. W. James and Wanda Frandsen to recognize students with scholastic merit and provide encouragement for completion of a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemical Engineering.

Donald A. Dahlstrom Scholarship (2)
$1,000

Awarded in honor of the late Professor Donald Dahlstrom, a well-beloved educator and leader in chemical engineering, to recognize high academic merit.

Neelu Ramaswamy Scholarship for Women (1)
$500

Awarded through a generous endowment established by Dr. Ramaswami Neelameggham in honor of his father to encourage women to pursue careers in chemical engineering.

Donald A. Dahlstrom Outstanding Service Scholarships (1)
$1,000

Awarded to recognize outstanding volunteerism and leadership to the department and university communities and to the general public.

Walter L. & Treva Pershing Scholarship (1)
$1000

Established by Senior Vice President, Distinguished Professor David W. Pershing, to honor his parents' support of education and to encourage juniors and seniors of U.S. citizenship in their pursuit of excellence in chemical engineering.

University of Utah Tuition Scholarships (3)
$4,000

Provided by the University of Utah to encourage academic merit, these scholarships carry a variable value dependent upon personal registration and residency.

Mark and Alice Isaacson Scholarship (1)
$1,000

Provided through the generosity of alumni, Mark and Alice Isaacson, this scholarship recognizes scholastic merit and provides encouragement to students of chemical engineering.

Red Hanger Dry Cleaners Scholarship (2)
$1,000

Brad Overmoe, alumnus and president of a successful dry cleaning business, provides an annual donation to support students of merit in chemical engineering.

Semnani Foundation Scholarships (3)
$2,000

The Semnani Foundation, founded by Mr. Kosro Semnani, seeks to promote chemical & nuclear engineering education in Utah by providing these annual scholarships. One of the awards is dedicated for a student demonstrating educational and career interest in nuclear engineering.

Calvin H. Peery Scholarship (2)
$1,250

Provided through a generous donation from alumnus, Calvin H. Peery, this scholarship is provided to support and encourage successful students of Chemical Engineering.


New Student Scholarships

All new chemical engineering transfer and freshman are invited to apply for New Student Scholarships; these are administered on a rolling basis during the year. Students must apply for these scholarships the semester before or during the first semester they attend the University of Utah.

Alice & William VanTalge Transfer Scholarship (2)
$750

Endowed through a generous gift from the VanTalge estate, this scholarship provides encouragement and financial assistance to students entering the University of Utah from another institution of higher education who are pursuing a degree in chemical engineering. Only students who are in the process of transferring are eligible.


Special Awards

Awards are not part of the regular scholarship application process. Awards are distributed according to the specific processes for each given award.

John Zink Undergraduate Scholarship (2)
$1,000

Awards of Excellence in Undergraduate Studies, funded by the John Zink Company, are awarded in spring semester to students interested in pursuing engineering careers in clean, efficient energy resource development and use.

Oblad Silver Medal of Excellence (1)
$250

The Oblad Medal of Excellence is provided annually to an exceptional graduating senior. Funded by the late Professor Alex Oblad, the award recognizes achievement and leadership during a career in undergraduate studies in chemical engineering.

J.D. Seader Leadership Scholarship (1)
$250

Awarded in honor of Professor Seader, a renown leader in chemical engineering education, to recognize the service and leadership provided by the student-elected SAC chair.

AIChE Chapter Leadership Scholarship (1)
$250

Awarded to the student-elected president of the AIChE Student Chapter for service and leadership to the department.
