The University of Utah Department of Chemical Engineering recognized 2014 graduates and their friends and family at a reception in their honor on Friday, May 2. The ceremony was held prior to the College of Engineering Convocation and celebrated the anticipated graduation of Chemical Engineering students.

Among the graduates was Jennifer Alvary, a graduate of  Clearfield High School and a first-generation college student who completed a bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering. “It feels surreal right now,” she said on Friday. “It’s unbelievable.”

Babak (Bobby) Goshayeshi, who completed a Doctor of Philosophy in Chemical Engineering who is from Iran, said he was encouraged by how supportive the faculty are and expressed gratitude to all of them.

Julie Holman who is the mother of Tessora (Tess) Young, graduating with the top GPA in her class andthe Oblad Silver Medal of Excellence awardee “I am so proud of my daughter” she said. “Words can’t describe.” She completed a bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering.  This fall, Young will begin working toward a master’s degree in chemical engineering at Washington University.
