Dan Sweeney, a PhD candidate in Mechanical Engineering working for Chemical Engineering Professor Kevin Whitty, has been awarded a Fulbright Grant for the 2012-2013 academic year. As a Fulbright Fellow, Dan will spend the next year in Northern Sweden performing research on renewable fuel production from biomass and waste at the Energy Technology Centre in Piteå, Sweden, and Luleå University of Technology in Luleå, Sweden. In following with the tradition of the Fulbright Program to promote cultural exchange and understanding, Dan will participate in campus and community activities outside of his research, including the establishment of an Engineers Without Borders student chapter, service work with local agricultural organizations, and student-led outdoor recreation.
