Innovation and Collaboration

The Salt Lake Section of the Society of Petroleum Engineers will host a dinner meeting for members, spouses, and any interested parties on Thursday, October 1, 2015 at the Department of Natural Resources, located at 1594 W North Temple, Salt Lake City, UT 84114-5610. A map is provided at the end of this meeting announcement. Dr. Nathan Meehan, President of the Society of Petroleum Engineers is the speaker.

Participants should plan on gathering and paying for a social hour at 6:15 p.m. with dinner and Dr. Meehan’s presentation starting at 6:45 p.m. The cost is $30.00 for members and guests, $15.00 for students. Please try to adhere to the deadline for reservations in order to keep costs down. Dr. Meehan will speak on Innovation and Collaboration in the petroleum sector.

Biography

Dr. D. Nathan Meehan serves as Senior Executive Advisor to Baker Hughes Incorporated and is President-elect of the Society of Petroleum Engineers. Previously he was President of CMG Petroleum Consulting; Vice President of Engineering for Occidental Oil & Gas; and General Manager, Exploration & Production Services for Union Pacific Resources. Dr. Meehan holds a BSc in Physics from the Georgia Institute of Technology, an MSc in Petroleum Engineering from the University of Oklahoma, and a PhD in Petroleum Engineering from Stanford University.

With more than 40 years experience, he served as Chairman of the Board of the CMG Reservoir Simulation Foundation and twice as a Director of the Computer Modelling Group, Ltd., as Director of Vanyoganeft Oil Company, Nizhnyvartosk, Russia, as Director of Pinnacle Technologies, Inc., as a Director of the Society of Petroleum Engineers and as a Director of JOA Oil & Gas BV. He is an SPE Distinguished Member and the recipient of SPE’s Lester C. Uren Award for Distinguished Achievement in Petroleum Engineering, the Degolyer Distinguished Service Medal and the SPE Public Service Award. He serves on the boards of the Georgia Institute of Technology’s Strategic Energy Institute and the Penn State and University of Texas petroleum engineering departments and is an advisory board member of Wearable Intelligence. He is an appointed member of the Interstate Oil & Gas Compact Commission and widely published author. Dr. Meehan is a licensed professional engineer in four states.

Dr. Meehan and his wife served as humanitarian volunteers in Asia for 18 months. They have six children and seven grandsons.
