Graduate Seminar/Workshop Dr. Brian Van Devener Wednesday August 26 – 3:00-4:00 p.m., WEB L102

unnamedSurface Analysis and Nano-Imaging Lab: Ultra High Resolution Imaging and Spectroscopic Instruments Available for Your Research.

Dr. Brian Van Devener is a Surface Scientist at the University of Utah Nanofab facility. The title of this seminar is Surface Analysis and Nano-Imaging Lab: Ultra High Resolution Imaging and Spectroscopic Instruments Available for Your Research. The seminar will be from 3:00 to 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday August 26, in WEB L102. There will be light refreshments afterwards.

Abstract: With a wide array of high resolution imaging and analytical instruments including:

· S/TEM (Scanning/Transmission Electron Microscopy, with dual EDS)
· HR-SEM (High Resolution Scanning Electron Microscopy, with EDS, EBSD, ESEM)
· XPS/AES (X-Ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy/Auger Electron Spectroscopy, with XPS imaging, ISS)
· AFM (Atomic Force Microscopy)
· dbFIB (dual beam Focused Ion Beam)
· Ellipsometry
· Surface Profilometry
· XRF (X-Ray Fluorescence)
· Optical Microscopy
· Confocal Microscopy

This University Core Facility lab has a large selection of equipment available to faculty and their research. From atomic resolution imaging to measuring surface elemental composition and more, these instruments provide faculty across many disciplines the tools they need to help guide their research.

Biography: Working as the University Surface Scientist since 2009, Dr. Van Devener has a wide variety of skills in surface and materials characterization. During that time, he has co-authored/assisted in over 20 publications from University faculty.
