October 23, marked the 2014 kickoff meeting for the University of Utah’s student chapter of the SPE (Society of Petroleum engineers). After a BBQ, John Baza, Director of Utah’s Division of Oil, Gas and Mining spoke on “What Petroleum Engineering and SPE Membership Have Meant to Me”. Mr. Baza highlighted the contribution of Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) to his career since he was a student member of the society. Mr. Baza joined as a student member in the late 1970s. He walked the attendees through his career and highlighted the ways that networking and interactions with colleagues has been motivational. The event was attended by students from different disciplines, including Petroleum Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Mining Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering, Computer Science, and many others.The photographs show some of the attendees.
