Abstract

Chevron is a world class Fortune 50 company that specializes in exploration, production, transportation and refining of crude oil and products. The company strives to be the global energy company most admired for its people, partnership, and performance. In the refining sector, engineers are pivotal in ensuring we conduct business in a way that promotes safety, protects the environment and runs reliably while maintaining profitability for the company. A look inside our engineers’ day to day duties and potential for career advancement will be given. Also, we will conduct a discussion of experiences outside of the oil industry that will set you up for an oil company career.

Short Biographies

Ahmed graduated from the University of Utah with a Bachelor’s of Chemical Engineering in 2013. He has worked with Chevron for almost two years as a Process Engineer on the Reforming and Isomerization Units at the Salt Lake Refinery. In this role, he provides daily support and long term optimization opportunities to help the refinery remain profitable. His previous experience was in polymers and plastics at Bayer MaterialScience as a Reliability intern. He also worked with Dr. Milind Deo in research and model development for pipeline flow assurance of waxy crude oil. He resides in Salt Lake City with his wife Jessica and still loves being involved with the University of Utah in various capacities.

Gregory is a process engineer monitoring the Coker, HDN and HDS at the Chevron Salt Lake City Refinery. He previously worked for FLSmidth doing plant design, filtration SME, equipment sizing, commissioning, and lab/pilot scale testing in the mineral processing, industrial chemical and power industries. He also worked for CH2M Hill doing lean manufacturing for a year and environmental work for 1 year..
